The best type of hard drive cooler, is a cooler that blows air over the bottom of your drive. A common misconception is that the motor in the drive runs hot. It is the actual controller under the drive that puts out the most heat. You do not actually need a lot of CFM to cool a hard drive just a decent airflow.
Do I need to get a hard drive cooler for my case?
If you have front mounted case fans that blow over the hard drive then you won't need a hard drive cooler. Some of the ATA 133 drives run extremely cool. The best way to tell if your drive runs hot is to power up your computer wait about 30 minutes and touch the side of your hard drive bay to see if it is getting warm.
